Adaptive Arabic Online Learning Strategy Using Mobile Technology and Social Media for Personalization

The growing diversity of Arabic language learners necessitates adaptive strategies that accommodate individual differences in proficiency, pace, and motivation. Traditional one-size-fits-all online approaches often fail to address these varied needs. This study aims to develop and test an adaptive online Arabic learning strategy that integrates mobile technology and social media to deliver personalized learning experiences. Employing a mixed-method sequential explanatory design, the research involved 150 Arabic learners from five Indonesian universities. Participants were divided into an experimental group (n=75) receiving an adaptive mobile-social media integrated strategy, and a control group (n=75) receiving non-adaptive online instruction. The intervention featured a personalized mobile app with AI-driven content adaptation and a private social media community for collaborative learning. The experimental group significantly outperformed the control group in overall Arabic competency (mean posttest: 87.3 vs. 59.6; t = 14.876, p < 0.001, Cohen's d = 2.01). Additionally, the adaptive group reported higher motivation (92% vs. 61%), greater perceived personalization (88% vs. 34%), and a stronger sense of learning community (84% vs. 42%). The study concludes that adaptive strategies leveraging mobile technology and social media effectively personalize Arabic online learning, significantly enhancing both competency and engagement, thereby overcoming the limitations of non-adaptive methods.
